Welsh Surfing Federation Surf School

Where are we?
The surf school is based in Hillend Caravan and Campsite just outside Llangennith. The Surf School is based at Hillend Camping and Caravan site, Llangennith, North Gower, Near Swansea.

Try www.streetmap.co.uk a detailed zoomable map of Gower.

Directions From the M4
It takes half an hour to get to Llangennith from junction 47 on a quiet day.  If it's a hot weekend day allow twice this time.

NB Dont turn off on any other junction apart from junction 47.  If you take an earlier turning and go through Swansea you will add at least half an hour to your journey time.

Exit the M4 at Junction 47. Take the A483 towards Swansea. At the next roundabout take the A484 towards Gowerton. Go straight over the next roundabout towards Gowerton. At the next roundabout take the B4296 towards Gowerton. At the next traffic lights turn right on the B4295 towards Penclawdd. Stay on this Road (approx. 10 Miles) through Penclawdd, Llanrhidian, Bury Green without turning off. Drop down the hill into Llangennith, past the Kings Head Pub to a mini roundabout. Turn left towards Hillend Camp Site.  At the entrance of the caravan site head towards the camping field. Drive past the entrance to the camping field and as the car park opens up to your left the surf school is housed in a green lock up in the sand dune at the very top of the grass car park.

How To Get To The Surf School

Bus timetable information (click on Journey planner and select Llangennith as destination) Tel: 0871 200 2233
Train timetable information  Tel: 0845 748 4950
Taxi phone numbers

The train station is in Swansea (15 miles from Llangennith) and there is a bus service to Llangennith but as this is a rural area please check all times carefully.

The road from the village of Llangennith to Hillend campsite (about 1/2 mile long) is very narrow and not accessable by coach.  Large minibuses are able to use this road.

The Beach
Rhossili bay (more often known as Llangennith) is an ideal place to learn and develop your surfing ability. It picks up all of the Atlantic swell and, because of its gently sloping beach, it provides long waves capable of being ridden for a hundred metres or more. Because of this the W.S.F. surf school can run in most surf conditions.

Its 3 mile length thins any crowd and the atmosphere at the beach is very relaxed with a "surf scene" far less geared to the competitive surfer than at some surf spots. The beach is very popular with people learning and improving their surfing so there are always others of your standard around.

Rhossili bay is at the far west of the Gower Peninsula, the first part of Britain to be declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with many breathtaking walks around the coast.

Whitford point lighthouse at the far north-west end of Gower. Disused since the start of the century but still majestic.

Sunset over Worms Head and the wreck of the ship Helvettia. The most photographed sunset on Gower.
